MrTopesGolf's Top Three Public Golf Courses In Maui
The Plantation & Bay Courses at Kapalua Bay
Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, this miraculous 7,411-yard course has been consistently ranked as the #1 golf course in all of Hawaii. Located on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains near Kapalua Bay, this course offers the most dramatic ocean views and stunning scenery at every hole. Most famously, the Plantation Course is home to the PGA TOUR’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions each January.
The Plantation course at Kapalua Bay is the 22nd Ranked public course in the US.

Its lengthy 7,596 yard par 73 layout challenges the pros but it’s wide fairways and generous greens make it very playable for the average golfer. With dramatic elevation changes, this course offers plenty of downhill tee shots. You’ll feel like one of the pros when - with the aid of the aggressive slope of the 18th fairway - you will enjoy hitting one of the longest drives of your life.
Kapalua Golf Bay Course:
The Bay Course is a championship course that is as challenging as it is beautiful. Known for its breathtaking 17th hole, the only hole to play over the ocean on Maui, it should certainly be on the "must play” list for any golfer visiting Maui.

Gold Course at Wailea Golf Club
The 7,078-yard Wailea Gold is a masterfully designed layout. Its strategic and rugged design takes advantage of the terrain’s natural undulations and phenomenal ocean vistas, but four to six tee boxes built into every hole makes it a suitable track for virtually every player. The Wailea Gold was created by architect Robert Trent Jones II, and has been called a “thinking player’s course,” offering a true test of one’s golf skills. Strategy and finesse are important to playing the Gold well, and the course’s intriguing risk-reward choices makes it possible to use every club in your bag. Perhaps the most difficult hazards on the Wailea Gold, however, are the distracting island views. Gold #8 is a prime example. This par-3 beauty has golfers teeing off toward an unbeatable view of the ocean and little Molokini, a crescent shaped islet and one of Maui’s most popular snorkeling spots. Juxtaposed between the tee boxes and the fairway is a dark papohaku wall, and the verdant green is ringed by coconut trees and a sparkling white bunker. It’s hard to imagine a more picturesque Hawaiian vista.

Ka’anapali Kai Courses
Kaanapali Kai Golf Course:
Ka'anapali Kai Course was originally designed by architect Arthur Jack Snyder in 1976, but was recently renovated by one of Hawaii's most prolific golf course architects Robin Nelson. At 6400 yards, the Par 70 course is now more forgiving and features subtle, undulating greens that suits all levels of play.
Kaanapali Royal Kaanapali Golf Course:
The Royal Ka'anapali Course is a Par 71 that stretches to 6700 yards from the championship tees. The course was opened in 1962 and is one of only two Robert Trent Jones Sr designed courses in all of Hawaii. The signature hole is the beautiful 5th that takes you directly down to Ka'anapali and Black Rock Beach. (You will be so close to the ocean you can go swimming!) Robert Trent Jones Sr took advantage of the rolling landscape to create gently sloping fairways and large contoured greens to ensure a challenging approach to each hole. You will have views of the two neighboring islands (Molokai and Lanai) from almost every hole on the course.
